Nikoport

My name is Niko Neugebauer and I am a software designer, living in Portugal. And because my family name is a “mystery” for the most of portuguese (as well as for any non-german speaking person), i prefer been treated by Niko. Early in my life i have developed an interest in the technologies and programming. I have started doing some “programming” on my very first computer zx-81. =O)

In the recent years i have worked for companies like eChiron and Novabase Consulting, where i was developing software systems, applications, web sites, intranet portals and database applications. Since February 2007 i am working full time for Web Caravela design, which is one of the best professional web design firms in Portugal.

C, C++, C#, ASP, Java, JSP, ASP, PHP, Objective C, Navision Financials, Dp4, Delphi, Visual Basic, Pascal among others… I have worked with different databases like MySQL, Oracle 8-10, SQL Server 2000-2005, Interbase and even Access( only my first experiences though ). Right now, in my free time, i am developing and experimenting with Ruby On Rails.

I also like to work with different open source software like Open Office, The GIMP, Inkscape, Eclipse and others because i think that those are the projects which deserves a lot of recognition and are very cost-effective alternatives.

In the recent years i have developed a strong interest in the developing for the net. I have had already done several things in HTML before, but only in the recent 3-4 years i have started to devote myself to the net, web-standards, design and usability. I find these areas extremely interesting and important.

Though my personal hero is Hobbes, with each year of my life more and more like Karlsson, though i have never been living on the roof =O). I love listening to the music, and enjoy a lot of different types of it – classical and electronic, rock and pop and even folklore. The most important things for me in this life are my family and my friends, because through all the ups & downs, they are the only who will always be by my side.
